We just received an email from a resident in Glencairn View.
“I woke up this morning to find the contents of the glove box strewn all over my passenger seat. I had stupidly left my car unlocked last night. At the time, I put it down to someone opportunistically having a look on the way back from the pub and since nothing was stolen, didn’t see cause to raise any alarm.
However, this evening, I got an email from the milkman cautioning people to beware of people actively trying to open car doors when he was doing his round….around 6am.
This made me more concerned. The fact that there was more than one and that they were up at 6 in the morning to do it means it was premeditated and therefore, unlikely to be an isolated incident. Also, there were cds, cables and spare car parts in my car that an opportunistic robber might have taken – but those items were not touched. Nothing was taken. I suspect they were looking for something more specific – wallets or keys.
I’ve contacted Dundrum Garda station but could not make a statement over then phone – I did fill them in on all the details above.
He’ll pop down tomorrow to make a formal statement but in the meantime, we publish this email to remind people to please lock their cars (and house doors of course).
