The Gallops Estate

The Gallops Residents Association would like to update all residents on the following items discussed at our Deputation Meeting with DLR County Council on 15th September.

Road Safety and Maintenance:

The laneway junction at Orby Park/Orby Drive and Glencairn Drive: 
The above is included in a package of works that will make it safer for our children using the laneway crossing to walk to and from school.  The works will shortly commence allowing for an uncontrolled crossing at Orby Park/Drive together with a separate zebra crossing at Glencairn Drive at the entrance to the playground, tennis court, and MUGA.  They hope to have this in place before Christmas and residents affected by the works will be notified by the contractor.

Traffic Management:

DLRCC Senior Engineer is conducting a review of the traffic signals to ensure a fairer sequencing for exiting The Gallops. The Gallops Estate 30KPH zoning is under review also.  It is proposed to conduct a traffic survey in the estate and we have requested that this takes place at peak times and not during school holidays as has happened in the past. 

Parks and Landscape:

The reconfiguration of the green area opposite Glencairn View and Garth is imminent with a newly constructed pedestrian entrance to Woodward Square linking up with the new extension to the greenway connecting the laneway.  There will also be adequate public lighting installed.

Review of playground, tennis courts, MUGA, and green gym:

The playground is next on the list for refurbishment and should be included in Budget 2022 with funding in excess of €60k required.  In relation to CCTV and additional lighting, a motion at a recent council meeting for CCTV was rejected for legal and logistical reasons.  There are no plans to further upgrade the public lighting but there will be additional pruning of vegetation.

Proposed walking track Orby Field:

DLRCC requested funding from the NTA for this project but unfortunately, this was refused.  DLRCC is now proposing to go back to the Capital budget to fund this project which they are anxious to complete.
