BusConnect – don’t lose our 47 bus – here is what YOU can do!

The new revised BusConnects.ie plans to upgrade the Dublin Bus service were published last month and unfortunately for the residents of The Gallops and the other residents of Murphystown Way it looks like we may lose our bus service, the 47 bus.

The Gallops Residents Committee raised this issue already in our initial ‘BusConnects Submission’ back in September 2018. You can read our submission here in PDF format.

The proposed replacement for the 47 bus – the 213/313 – will travel from Stepaside towards the Leopardstown M50 roundabout via Kilgobbin Road instead. Under the new proposals, we will have no bus serving Murphystown Way, forcing even more people into cars or onto the already over-crowded Luas.

The 47 bus connects our residents to areas not served by the Luas such as Vincent’s Hospital, UCD, and the many schools along the N11. The proposed replacement No. 213 bus will terminate at UCD and you will have to change buses to travel further.

With the combined populations of The Gallops, Levmoss Park, Leopardstown Valley, Leopardstown Heights all exiting onto Murphystown Way it would be unfortunate to lose our only bus service. With the two new housing developments at Glencairn and Lisieux Hall, there will be another 400+ units coming in the near future and the population on Murphystown Way will increase furthermore. We know how heavy the traffic has become in recent years and it’s set to increase even more over the next while. Losing our bus service in such a densely populated area will only make the traffic worse.

These new plans to change bus routes in Dublin are still at the proposal stage so it is not too late to do something about it. BusConnects are holding Public Consultation Events throughout November: https://busconnects.ie/media/1758/public-consultation-events.pdf

  1. Hi Julie

Thanks for your email. As well as the 47, we’re going to lose the 118 bus, which is a crucial route for local kids going to Coláiste Íosagáin and Coláiste Eoin as it goes straight down Brewery Road to the N11 rather than getting snarled up for a long time in the industrial estates and Stillorgan Village. Parents of current students of those schools and parents of kids in local Gaelscoileanna who hope to go on to secondary level at those schools will have a keen interest in retaining it. It only runs twice a day – in the mornings – and it’s oversubscribed as it’s a far better option than the 47 for accessing the N11. It’s also a quicker option for UCD students. Would it be possible to spread the word on this also?

    Kind regards
